The second day of the conference is mainly dedicated to ambitious European Union’s Earth Observation Programme, Copernicus. It consists in a unified system through which large amounts of data are available for information services designed to benefit the way we live every day thanks to their application in several sectors: such as urban area management, health, agriculture, emergency management, tourism and more.
In addition to the Brokerage Event, 3 sessions will take place:
- The European Copernicus Programme
- IOD - IOV, European Defence Fund
- CASSINI - HACKATHON & MENTORING
THE EUROPEAN COPERNICUS PROGRAMME
This session will provide an overview of the actual Copernicus state-of-the-art and also insights for a better definition of the future programme perspectives.
IOD - IOV, European Defence Fund
The IOD/IOV initiative started under the Horizon 2020 programme Research and Innovation Programme. It countinues to be funded by the European Union's Horizon Europe research and innovation programme. Horizon Europe enables the space R&I community to develop innovative space technologies and operational concepts from idea to demonstration in space, and to foster the use of space data for scientific, public, or commercial purposes.
The In-Orbit Demonstration and Validation initiative (IOD/IOV) will allow academia, research organisations, SMEs and larger industrial companies to effectively test new technologies in orbit, reducing the time it would otherwise take to bring them to market. It will also contribute to the EU space skills agenda by exposing students to activities required for designing, building, testing, integrating, and operating a satellite.
It will positively impact the competitiveness of European space research, the space industry and further demonstrate the capability of European organisations. These missions will contribute to maintaining Europe’s place as a global space leader, while shaping solutions for the future.

CASSINI HACKATHON & MENTORING
The CASSINI HACKATHONS: a major opportunity to develop ideas for a digital application building on space data, including satellite images and positioning services
The CASSINI Hackathons and Mentoring are a series of six hackathons that tackle global challenges with European space technologies.
Each of the six hackathons will take place in 10 different locations simultaneously.
For more information visit the Cassini Hackathon website.
The session will host the local winners of the 3rd edition Cassini Hackathon in Italy.
More information will be available soon. If you want to discover more on the programme, please, see the Space Week 2022 brochure.
